Arguably one of the most important steps in building the success of your Shopify store is adding your products. After all, the point of ecommerce is to sell!
Fortunately, adding products to your Shopify backend is quick and simple. Here’s how:

Step #1: Go to your Shopify Admin and click on the “Products” tab:

Step #2: Click “Add a product” located at the top right hand corner:

Step #3: Enter the product’s “Title” and “Description”:

Step #4: Scroll down to the “Images” section to add images of your product:

Step #5: Click “Add images” to upload images from your computer.  Alternatively, you can drag and drop the images from your computer’s directory to the images section:

Step #6: The first image you upload will become your featured image by default:

Step #7: In order to upload additional images, click “Add images” or by dragging and dropping from your computer:

Step #8: Locate the list of products details including “visibility” and  “organization”:

Step #9: The “Visibility” option determines whether your product is visible in your store.  If you check the box to the left of “Online store” then the product will be visible in your store:
 
 
 
 
Step #10: In the “Organization”section you can assign values to any of the products in your store.
a) Enter “Product type.” This will be the label that categorizes your product grouping.  Product types can be helpful to automate collections. For example, you can create a collection by includes all products labeled as “Dress.” Any additional product entries with the “Dress” label will automatically be added into that collection:

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
b) Enter the product’s “Vendor” :

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
c) Assign a “Collection” to the product from the collections list:

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
d) You can now add “Tags” to the product:
Every product in your store has some search terms and keywords known as “Tags.” Tags will be useful if your customers are searching for any keyword in your store. For example, if you enter “dress” as a tag, then your customer will see this product in their results when searching for the term “dress.”

 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Step #11: Locate the “Pricing” section:

Step #12: Enter the “Price” of your product in the price textbox:

 
Step #13: Enter the “Compare at price” of your product. If you want to show a product on sale in your store, then you need to insert the product’s original price here and new sale price in the “Price”:

 
Step #14: Check the option “Charge taxes on this product” if you want to include taxes for your product:

Step #15: Locate the “Inventory” section below “Pricing”:

Step #16: Enter the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) number of your product. The SKU is the identification number of your product to keep your product unique:

Step #17: Add a Barcode number. This barcode number is mainly used for tracking your products or trade items in your store.

 
Step #18: Choose your Inventory policy. You can handle the inventory from Shopify itself:
a) Choosing “Don’t track inventory” tells Shopify to not track the inventory, which means there will be infinite items available to purchase.

 
b) Choosing “Shopify tracks this product’s inventory” tells Shopify to track the inventory and the product’s availability counter will decrease according to the purchase. Only the items which will be there in stock will be available to purchase. For this, you need to manually enter the product quantity available for purchase:

 
Step #19: You may provide your customers with the option to purchase the products even if they are not in stock by selecting “Allow customers to purchase this product when it’s out of stock”:

 
Step #20: Locate the “Shipping” section below “Inventory”:

Step #21: Add “Weight” to the product. The weight of the product will be helpful during the checkout process if your Shopify store charges taxes on products based on weight:

Step #22: Select or deselect “This product requires shipping” according to your item:

Step #23: Once you are done, click “Save” at the bottom of the page:
