You can group your products together into categories, known as collections, to make them easier to manage or easier for your customers to discover. Examples of collections that you might create include:

  • clothes specifically for men, women, or children
  • items of a certain type, such as lamps, cushions, or rugs
  • items on sale
  • items in a certain size or color
  • seasonal products such as holiday cards and decorations.

Collections page

You manage collections through the Collections and Navigation pages of your Shopify admin.

To see your Collections page:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Products, then click Collections (or press G P C):

Adding new collections

When you add a collection, you set up all its details for the first time, and specify whether products will be added manually or automatically. After this, you need to link the collection to your navigation if you want visitors to discover the collection when browsing your store.

You can add the same product to any number of different collections.

Updating existing collections

To make changes to one of your existing collections:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Products, then click Collections (or press G P C): 

    Click Products then Collections

  2. Click the name of the collection you want to update:

The information page opens for the collection you've chosen.

You can change just about anything, apart from whether items are added manually or automatically (if you want to change this, you must create a new manual or automated collection.)

Customizing your collection pages

If you're feeling confident, try implementing one of our customizations for collection pages.

Customizations can add extra polish to your online store, although they often require some expertise in basic web design. Bear in mind that many of our customizations are unsupported, which means we're not able to help if you run into problems. You could try the Shopify forums for advice, or consider hiring a Shopify Expert to do your customizations for you.

Need to change a collection type?

You can't change the way products are selected for a collection. If you need to do this, you must create a new manual or automatic collection.

Deleting a single collection

Note

If you delete a collection, it's removed permanently from both your online store and your Shopify admin. If you think you might need a collection in the future, you should hide the collection instead of deleting it.

To permanently remove a single collection:

  1. Open the information page for the collection you want to delete.

  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click Delete this collection at the bottom-left of the screen.

  3. A confirmation window will appear. Click Delete again.

Deleting multiple collections

If the collections you've deleted are linked to anywhere in your store's navigation, the links are removed automatically.
